Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I started suffering from testicle pain three months ago. I had a physical examination, and there were no lumps or swelling. I was told it was likely to be epididymitis, and I was given antibiotics (Flucloxacillin 1000 mg) daily for two weeks. I completed the course and felt completely better. I started to experience the same pain in my testicle five days ago. I have had slight bladder pain at times. Sometimes, the right side of my testicle and right leg hurts when I urinate. It happened twice. I have lower back pains, too. There are no lumps or swelling in the testicle again. I am sexually active and have had the same partner for 15 years. Could this be epididymitis again? Is it normal for such a thing to come back so soon? Any help is greatly appreciated. I do not smoke or drink, and my only known medical condition is IBS. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

We will pay close attention to your worries and address all of your questions with utmost care.

You may be experiencing a recurrence of epididymitis (an inflammation of the tube that carries the sperm), but it is also important to rule out other possible causes of your symptoms. Here are some steps you can take:

1. Contact your doctor: Since you have already had an episode of epididymitis, it is essential to inform your doctor about your symptoms and the previous diagnosis. Your doctor may recommend a physical examination, urine tests, or imaging studies to determine the cause of your symptoms.

2. Practice good hygiene: Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly before and after urinating, and wipe from front to back after urinating or having a bowel movement. This can help prevent the spread of bacteria that can cause epididymitis.

3. Avoid tight-fitting clothing: Tight-fitting clothing or underwear can trap heat and moisture, which can promote bacterial growth and increase the risk of infection. Wear loose-fitting clothing and cotton underwear to promote airflow and prevent moisture buildup.

4. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to help flush bacteria from your system and prevent dehydration, which can worsen symptoms of epididymitis or other urinary tract infections.

5. Avoid sexual contact: If you suspect that your symptoms are related to a sexually transmitted infection (STI), avoid sexual contact until you have been treated by a healthcare provider.

6. Follow your doctor's treatment plan: If your doctor prescribes antibiotics or other medications to treat your symptoms, make sure to follow the treatment plan carefully and complete the full course of medication, even if you start to feel better, before finishing the treatment. This will help ensure that the infection is fully resolved and prevent recurrence.

In summary, while you may be experiencing a recurrence of epididymitis, it is essential to consult with a healthcare provider to determine the cause of your symptoms and develop an appropriate treatment plan. By practicing good hygiene, staying hydrated, avoiding tight-fitting clothing, and following your doctor's treatment plan, you can help prevent future episodes of epididymitis or other urinary tract infections.

I hope this information will help you.
