I am getting watery discharge from eyes. Could this be conjunctivitis?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have little white discharge from my eyes when I wake up. Could this be some form of conjunctivitis? If yes, what is the treatment? I have been washing my eyes with warm saline water for three days. After I wash, the eyes are normal and there is no redness during the day. The condition has improved, but still there is some discharge.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. If this is a recent onset and finding, then it could be conjunctivitis. However, if you aren't experiencing any other symptoms like pain, it's probable that your condition is related to pollution. Consider adjusting your exposure to pollutants. Alongside, you can continue using saline washes and consider using Olopatadine eye drops for a five-day period to alleviate discharge. It's advisable to consult your specialist doctor, have a discussion about your situation, and take the medication with their consent.
