Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I underwent cataract surgery for angle closure glaucoma ten weeks ago, and I am experiencing stabbing pain and a sensation of the presence of a foreign body. I tried using artificial tears, but they do not work. Is this due to dry eye or nerve damage? If it is nerve pain, will it resolve? Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I went through your query and understood your concern. However, I have a few questions. Are you currently experiencing any drop in your vision? Has your doctor given you any eyedrops to lower your eye pressure? A dry eye usually causes more of a burning sensation than a stabbing pain. There is no harm in using artificial tears more often. The potential causative factors can be due to age, gender, or history. However, I suggest you go to the emergency room if you develop these problems. Pain in and around the eye and severe headache that causes nausea. Seeing colored halos around lights. A decrease in your vision if everything seems cloudy or looks like you see through smoke. Your eyes are becoming red, or your eyes are watering too much. If you have the above symptoms, I suspect you may be experiencing an angle closure attack. The other possible differential diagnoses are acute conjunctivitis, acute anterior uveitis, or acute glaucoma. But to confirm this, we have to get a slit lamp examination done. I hope this helps. Kindly follow up after a year or in case of emergencies, whichever is earlier. Take care.
