How to improve skin complexion?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I would like to know the substitute for Melacare cream, as I noticed a reaction after using it and want to stop using it.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Why was it prescribed to you? What was the complaint? How long did you use it? It contains a steroid and should not be used for a long period of time. You should use sunscreen daily. A safer option, like Kojiglo cream (skin lightening cream), can be used.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I used to live abroad, and while I was there, my skin became darker. After returning to my native place, I went to the hospital, and they prescribed Melacare, which restored my skin color, but it made my skin sensitive. I want an alternative to maintain the fairness and stop using Melacare. I am using sunscreen daily. Which cream would you suggest?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, you are right; Melacare (Hydroquinone, Mometasone, and Tretinoin) makes the skin sensitive. Apply sunscreen daily in the morning. Use Golite cream (a brightening cream) every other night for one to two months. Apply Flavo-C serum (vitamin C and ginkgo biloba), just three to four drops, on the entire face on alternate nights. Take one tablet of Ener-C (Phyllanthus emblica extract and zinc) 1000 mg daily, dissolve it in a glass of water, and drink. It is a vitamin C tablet. This should take care of your skin, but sunscreen is a must. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

My skin is now fair but sensitive. Whenever I travel abroad for work, my skin gets much darker. I have been using La Shield, but it is making my skin oily. I also want to add some glow to my skin since I meet a lot of high-ranking officials and socialize frequently. Which cream would you suggest for glowing skin? I need a substitute for Melacare. I will use the cream, serum, and tablet as suggested. Do you have any other recommendations for glowing skin?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Changing the cream after using Melacare might make you feel that it is not showing good results, but as I mentioned, Melacare should not be used long-term, so it is better to start with the new option. Avene sunscreen is also a good choice. If you want better results, there are procedures like peeling that can be done by a dermatologist. Also, if you have heard of Glutathione treatment, it also provides good results. For both of these options, you would need to visit a dermatologist.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I bought La Shield SPF 40 and Golite cream as you suggested, and I use them daily. Is this a substitute for Melacare? Will it show long-term results to make my skin fairer? Can you recommend any cream for glowing skin? I have seen a lot of actresses with glowing skin, and I am not sure what they use. I am not actually dark; only my face gets darker when I travel abroad or get exposed to the sun or cold weather. Please suggest the best option that will provide long-term results without any changes in my skin color.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As I mentioned, creams do not provide very significant results. Lactic acid peels, or Q-switched and YAG (Yttrium Aluminum Garnet) lasers, offer better results. Glutathione, either oral or IV, would be a good long-term option (around six months). All of these procedures should be done in a clinic. For maintenance therapy, I’ve recommended Flavo-C serum and Golite cream. Eventually, you will need to stop using products that contain steroids.

Regards.
