Can positive factor V cause heavy bleeding and blood clots?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My factor V Leiden showed a positive outcome before three months. I got a Depo birth control shot before three months. I have heavy bleeding and blood clots now. Please suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You have factor V Leiden showing a positive result. So you are at high risk for developing blood clots in various organs of the body, especially in the lungs and legs, as pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis. If you have major clots occurring in the future, then blood thinners and anticoagulants like Rivaroxaban can be used. There is no treatment available for the eradication of the factor V mutation. For heavy menstruation, you can consult a gynecologist soon for a pelvic examination and pelvic USG.

I hope this helps.
