Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a non-penetrative sexual exposure to a massage therapist that involved foreplay and body-to-body massage a few days back. I also tested for HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests which came negative. Am I risk-free?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

The chances of transmission of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) are very low. If the person is HIV-negative, there is no chance of HIV transmission. I suggest you do an HIV antibody test now and after three months of exposure for conclusive results.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for your reply.

I have a few questions. If a person has tested negative for PCR, then does that mean he has an undetectable viral load? I did not do a test for HIV-2. Do I need to worry about it? Can I acquire HIV through non-penetrative sex?

Please help.

Hello, Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The chances of transmission are very low to almost nil if PCR (polymerase chain reaction) is negative. The laboratory test is reliable. HIV-2 is very rare. The chances of transmission of HIV by non-penetrative sex are nil unless there is contact with blood or infected secretions. Risk is almost nil. I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
