Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am prone to OCD and anxiety so I am probably overthinking this. I am worried about HIV exposure. I am homosexual and had sex with a condom but also inserted my finger which had a non-bleeding cut on it into my partner's anus. Will I get HIV?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your anxiety. Homosexual behavior is considered a high-risk category for HIV (human immunodeficiency syndrome) transmission. The risk is even more when the person is a receptive partner and the exposure is without any protection. Further, multiple partners even more increase the risk. As in your case, as all the major risk factors are present, it would be better to consider yourself in the high-risk category. Pre-exposure prophylaxis is not 100 percent protective. Hence, it is advisable always to use a condom and try to stick to a monogamous relationship.

I hope this helps. Thank you.
