Is it normal to place a permanent bridge before the temporary?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am in the process of getting ready for a dental bridge, a total of seven teeth, ordered in porcelain fused and then a crown, etc. Now, tomorrow I am supposed to get a temporary bridge.

I got a call today that they are going to prepare my teeth tomorrow and go ahead and do a permanent bridge, but the price is still the same. Does this sound correct? I was charged for a temporary bridge, but now I am not getting one, just a permanent one.

Kindly guide.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your temporary bridge was just for the time being, so that your dentist might have thought a permanent one would take time for fabrication, so the temporary was only for your comfort and esthetic issues.

Temporary is generally given if there is a delay in permanent and to check if the patient will be comfortable with the size, color, and all. It is good that your permanent bridge has been fabricated before time, you just need to take this much care that when tomorrow before fixing permanent finally you will be asked by fitting it in your mouth if it is proper in size and comfortable or not, so be very fair to yourself and your dentist and do tell him or her whatever you feel so after that it will be their duty to fix it up whatever problem may arise.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reach out in case of further queries.

Thank you.
