Why are teeth chipping, cracking, sensitive and sore since pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Since I was pregnant with my 1-year-old son, my teeth have been chipping, cracking, very sensitive and very sore. I noticed even today. My gums are turning white. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

From the picture which you have sent me (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), what I can see is that your teeth are not in very good condition. You are suffering from a condition called fluorosis, which is caused due to the excessive deposition of fluoride in the teeth, which ultimately leads to weakening of the tooth enamel and caries.

Moreover, your swollen gums could be due to plaque and tartar deposits, leading to gingivitis. My suggestion to you would be to visit a good dentist as soon as possible to get your treatment started.

I hope that this answers your query.

Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
