Patient's Query

Hi,

I had a bump outside my vaginal area. When I popped the bump, only pus came out at first and then it flattened. Now it is swollen. Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and concern. It seems that you are having folliculitis near your vaginal skin. Boils (also called furuncles) are a deep bacterial infection of hair follicles. You have to follow certain general measures like:

  1. If you are overweight, try to reduce your weight.
  2. Exercise regularly.
  3. Follow a balanced healthy diet that includes meat, plenty of fruits, and vegetables.
  4. Avoid smoking.
  5. Wash your whole body once a day with soap or cleanser and water. Wash your hands several times daily or use antiseptic hand rubs.
  6. Do not share your towel with other family members.
  7. Maintain a clean handkerchief and do not pick your nose.
  8. Change your underclothes and night attire regularly.
  9. Try to avoid activities that cause sweating and friction from clothing, such as squash and jogging.
  10. If you are iron deficient, a course of iron tablets may help reduce infection.
  11. Get your blood sugar levels checked.

As for the treatment, I suggest you take oral antibiotics like a tablet of Amoxicillin and Potassium clavulanate (Augmentin) 625 mg (provided you are not allergic to penicillin group) thrice a day for five days and topically apply Mupirocin ointment twice daily for five days. All medicines should be taken after consulting your general practitioner or nearby dermatologist.

I hope you got answers to all the queries.

Thank you.
