Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I occasionally get pimple-like bumps on my lower back and on the top of my hips. These bumps are mildly painful and resolve in two to three days. They usually leave behind a dark mark that stays for a while. Can you tell me what this is and how can I get it resolved? Also is there anything that can be done for the marks left behind? I applied a cream (10 % urea and 10 % lactic acid) and ga-12 (12% glycolic acid) on alternate days to treat my keratosis pilaris. Can this be causing these bumps or pimples?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. It looks like you have recurrent folliculitis, a superficial bacterial infection of hair follicles. There can be several causes of this, but not limited to repeated removal of hair, friction, etc. Keratosis pilaris lesions can sometimes get secondarily infected too. For recurrent folliculitis, I would suggest you apply Mupirocin cream twice a day for 10 days over the affected area and skin folds. For pigmentation, the Glycolic acid cream you are applying is more than sufficient.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am having this problem since years, can laser hair removal be a permanent solution? Glycolic acids has not been very effective against my pigmentation and keratosis pilaris problems. I have been using it for almost one year now. Can you suggest something else or a stronger variant?

Thank you.

Hello, Laser hair removal will be definitely helpful for you in folliculitis. Keratosis pilaris does not have a definitive cure, its symptoms can only be controlled. You can try Melalite forte (Hydroquinone) 4% cream twice a day for one month for the pigmentation. I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
