Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My penis foreskin is sore and swollen. The pain has got really bad. The area is swollen, tender, and painful, especially when touched, retracting the foreskin, or urinating.

I also have urinary problems, such as burning, difficulty urinating, and the uncomfortable feeling that the bladder is not empty. Sometimes the foreskin feels tight. The pain makes it hard to walk comfortably or do normal daily activities. Tell me why this is going on?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Painful swelling of the foreskin, along with difficulty passing urine, can happen due to the following reasons,

  • Balanoposthitis.
  • Tight foreskin (phimosis).
  • Fungal or bacterial infection.
  • Irritation.
  • Uncontrolled blood sugar/diabetes.

Since you are also having severe pain and urine problems, this should not be ignored because swelling can worsen and make urination more difficult.Do not forcefully pull back the foreskin, and avoid sex or masturbation until recovery.Wash only with lukewarm water, keep the area dry, avoid harsh soaps or powders and drink enough water.Treatment may include antifungal or antibiotic creams/tablets, pain-relief medicines, and sometimes medicines to improve urine flow if there is significant swelling. Treatment depends on the examination. If you are unable to pass urine, you have a fever, have pus discharge, have black discolouration or swelling that is worsening quickly, you need to seek medical evaluation immediately as a serious infection or complications from a tight foreskin may need urgent treatment.

Thank you.
