Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have roundworm infections in my knee and neck regions. I have bought Sporanox (Itraconazole capsules) 100 milligrams. So how should I use them? I have had this problem for four months, so will this capsule be enough to treat this?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I understand your concern and will try to help you with it.

Fungal infection indeed is very problematic if it becomes recurrent. First of all, you keep these precaution in mind:

1. Do not keep the area wet at all. Use powder frequently to keep it dry.

2. Avoid itching and do not scratch it.

3. Change the under garments.

4. Do not apply any general or steroid cream like Betnovate.

5. Do not stop the medicine once you cure it. Continue medicine for a long time to completely kill the fungal infection.

6. Avoid excessive sweating and wet clothes.

7. Check diabetes and thyroid. It is really recurrent even after proper treatment.

Treatment plan include:

1. Apply Ketoconazole cream and take tablet Terbinafine 250 milligrams for two months.

2. Apply Terbinafine cream and take tablet Fluconazole 150 milligrams twice a week for two months.

3. Take capsule Itraconazole 200 milligrams once a day along with any cream for one month.

If you are using capsule Itraconazole 100 milligrams, then take them twice in a day.

Thank you for consulting me.
