Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I underwent gallbladder surgery for four millimeters of stone removal , and the stent was placed inside for a month. The urine output went down slightly from yesterday. I have got tested for complete urine analysis, and the report showed RBC loaded. I usually thought it was due to weather problems, but after getting tested, I consulted the physician and was told that it occurred due to the stent placed inside and advised Spasmo-Proxyvon plus capsule. I am concerned about the cause and the precautions to be taken. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

The medical management must have failed to remove such a small VUJ (vesicoureteric junction) calculus (stone) . URS (ureteroscopy) with stenting would have been done due to the presence of fever. The urine output can be low due to decreased fluid intake. Due to the presence of a stent, RBC (red blood cells) load in the report is expected, and it will spontaneously resolve after stent removal. If the stent is causing a problem, it can be removed within seven days if there is no infection. In the case of VUJ stone, a longer duration may be needed.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Yesterday I visited my doctor, and the stent was removed. Everything seems alright, except that I am experiencing pain while urinating. I was informed prior that it is common after stent removal and advised to stop consuming non-vegetarian food. Is that necessary? Kindly suggest a diet plan and proper precautions.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I suggest you follow the below-mentioned instructions:

  1. If the pain persists beyond two days after stent removal, take capsule Roliflo OD (Tamsulosin) 2 mg at bedtime and tablet Nitrofurantoin 100 mg at bedtime for three days.

  2. Increase the fluid intake up to two to three liters in winter and five to six liters in summer.

  3. Meat should be avoided in cases of uric acid stones.

  4. Food contents with high oxalate content like nuts, spinach, and coke must be avoided.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take medications with their consent.

I would also like to know the answers to the following questions.

  1. What was stone composition on stone analysis?

  2. What are the values of your blood uric acid and calcium?

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello sir,

Thank you for the reply.

Only surgery along with fixing the stent was done and a stone analysis test has not been done by the appropriate hospital.

Thank you.

Hello,

Glad to have you back at icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Most of the stones are of calcium oxalate. Uric acid stones appear light on the X-ray.

I suggest you follow the below-mentioned instructions.

  1. Get tested for blood uric acid and calcium levels.

  2. Avoid food containing excess oxalate, like spinach, nuts, and cocoa drinks.

  3. Increase the water intake. More fluid in the body will dissolve impurities and prevent precipitation to form stones.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I want to inform you that I have been drinking alcohol (beer) weekly once. As the stent has been removed for 10 days, I am concerned that it should be stopped. Kindly suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com,

I can understand your concern.

Consuming alcohol once a week may not show a significant effect on health. Drinking plain water is sufficient for the expulsion of the stone.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
