Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My daughter is 21 years old and has major gaps in front teeth. What is the best way to fill the gaps?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The best way would be the usage of braces for the gaps between the teeth. If the gaps are less and present between a few teeth only, you can go for veneers. Considering the age, going for braces would be a better option. Still, seeing the patient directly and reviewing with a radiograph would give the best treatment planning. Consult a dentist soon.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for prompt reply. She is already using braces and no improvement due to large gaps. Some doctor suggested that composite restoration method to fill the gaps. Is this method safe or not? Is there any grinding of teeth in this composite restoration method? In future if we do not like this method, can it be removed and kept as a normal way of teeth? Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

How long has it been since braces have been put? Usually, it takes nearly a year or so for complete gap closure. I have seen the pictures (attachment removed to protect patient identity) and yeah, composite restoration is a good option as the gap is mild now. There is no grinding of teeth involved. As the gap is not too much, you can go for composite restoration. But that makes the teeth appear slightly large (that should be fine in this case as the teeth size is originally small). It is a safe procedure only. The patient should use the retainer for a minimum of four to six months to prevent any relapse (relapse is the movement of teeth back to their previous position before the placement of braces).

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
