Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 42-year-old man who has been dealing with GERD for the past year, and recently, I have been facing appetite issues. I do not feel hungry, and I am experiencing indigestion problems, bloating, and occasional constipation. Currently, I am taking Protonix. I underwent an abdominal CT scan, which showed no pathology and no lymphadenopathy. However, after reading about stomach cancer, I am concerned that I might have it. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Indigestion and reflux symptoms are commonly encountered in gastroenterology. A normal CT (computed tomography) scan is reassuring, indicating no major issues. Red flag signs, such as unintentional weight loss, blood in vomiting or stools, difficulty swallowing, or a family history of stomach or gut cancer, should be absent in simple indigestion cases.

For symptom relief, I would suggest you consider a trial of medications: Gaviscon syrup (sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, and calcium carbonate) 10 ml post-meal and Pantoprazole 40 mg once daily, taken half an hour before breakfast for two weeks.

Avoid eating out, reheated meals, and alcohol for a few days. If red flag signs persist or symptoms do not improve with medication, an endoscopy may be necessary. Avoid excessive internet browsing about the symptoms, as unfiltered information can cause anxiety and stress.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Kind regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
