Is chest tightness that radiates to the throat suggestive of GERD?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am having tightness in my chest for the past two days, that radiates up to my throat. I was not having any problem at first but now it is starting to irritate and hurt. Now I am also having a cough and it aggravates while talking or while deeply breathing. I was wondering if I should wait and see if it gets better or go see my doctor about it.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Mostly it is an acidity and reflux disease. Do you also have upper abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, burping, increase in pain on food, sour water feeling in your throat, or chest burning? If yes, it further supports the diagnosis. You should avoid fatty, oily, and spicy diets. Have some walks after having food instead of taking rests. Have multiple small meals instead of heavy meals. Have regular sleep habits and avoid stress. Consume lots of green leafy vegetables, and fruits. Avoid smoking and alcohol if any. I suggest taking tablet Pan-D SR 40 mg (Domperidone and Pantoprazole) before breakfast once a day for two weeks and syrup Ascoril (Ambroxol, Levosalbutamol and Guaifenesin) two teaspoons whenever needed. Do you also have a fever, rhinitis, sore throat, or other signs of infection? If yes, then there is also a possibility of infection. It is better to get examined once by a doctor, to rule out other problems, especially if symptoms are severe and not responding.

Thank you for consulting me.
