Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a nephrotic syndrome and gastroparesis or lazy bowel syndrome for which I was on corticosteroids for a very long time. I was also chronically constipated since childhood. So I started using laxatives like Dulcoflex. I follow a very good fiber-rich diet and use probiotics, but now even Dulcoflex is not working and I think the overuse has caused this. My stomach is bloated and I am barely eating but feel full and sick all the time. I am using multiple things like Ayurvedic laxatives and Dulcoflex to pass the motion as I cannot operate if I do not clear. Please let me know if there is a solution to this.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

For chronic constipation, intermittent switching of laxatives will help because long-term use of a single type of laxative will cause it to lose its efficacy. I suggest you add Psyllium Husk regularly to your diet and also take one to two Polyethylene glycol sachets per day.

Consult with your doctor, talk to them, and then take the medications.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I am adding organic Isabgol every day. How long should I take these sachets?

Also, would you suggest taking tablets Serta 25 or Pruvict to help with increasing motility? How long should I take this?

Should I take the sachet and tablets together?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Polyethylene glycol sachets are commonly used laxatives, you can use them for a couple of weeks. Adding Isabgol (Psyllium husk) would gradually reduce the need for Polyethylene glycol sachets.

Pruvict (Prucalopride) is one of the excellent newer medicine for chronic constipation and you can use it. But I would recommend trying a simple laxative sachet and if it works for you, you will be having Pruvict reserved for later use when other simple laxatives do not work.

If one is not sufficient and you are not responding well, you can take both the tablets and the sachets together.

I am assuming that workup related to constipation has already been done, including blood tests like thyroid evaluation, colonoscopy, etc.

Consult your specialist doctor, talk to them, and take the medication.

Do let me know if you have any other queries.

Thank you.
