Is anesthesia for facelift surgery safe after chest pain?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Eight months back I had chest pain. My dad expired at the age of 54 years because of MI. Hence the doctor insisted that I should take some tests and everything was normal. I have attached some of the test results. I did not get any chest pain later.

I am taking medicines for depression such as Adderall, Cymbalta, Wellbutrin, and Abilify. I would like to get facelift surgery, and for that, I need to be under anesthesia for five hours. Can I get general anesthesia? Please advise.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

On review of the echocardiogram (echo) and the stress test (attachment removed to protect patient identity), it appears that you should be fine going through the surgery.

However, I do not have your blood work. Usually, the surgeons would like to have it within 30 days prior to the procedure.

Other important questions would be:

1. Have you had any anesthetic complications in the past?

2. Do you have any blood transfusion-related issues?

3. Are you suffering from any lung problems related to smoking?

4. Do you have a history of anemia, shortness of breath, etc.?

5. Did you get any chest pain after the stress test?

6. Do you have a history of stroke, abnormal heartbeats, or abnormal heart rhythm?

7. Do you have a family history of hypertension, kidney problems, diabetes, or peripheral vascular disease?

If the answer to all these questions is no, then you are at low risk for facelift surgery.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.
