Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am wearing braces, and my upper gum has become inflamed and very irritated, and I am not sure about the cause. I woke up one morning, and it was like this. I have been in braces before and have not had this problem.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I thoroughly read your query and understand your concern.

Gingivitis is the result of plaque buildup on your teeth, and braces can make it more difficult to reach debris with brackets and wiring in place. Naturally, when food gets trapped in your gums, it can cause a buildup over time that results in gum inflammation. Although it is always important to your overall health that you remain diligent in your oral care regimen, it especially holds true if you have braces. To cut down on this swelling, be sure to review proper brushing techniques with your orthodontist and invest in additional cleaning tools that help clean your mouth and teeth thoroughly despite your brace. I suggest using Amflor (Sorbitol, Propylene glycol, Amine fluoride, and purified water) mouthwash daily to reduce inflammation.

Hope this helped.

Feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards.
