Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 24-year-old male and I spent 15 to 16 hours a day in an air-conditioned room three months before this summer, and it caused severe dryness on my face, particularly around my eyes and lips. I consulted a dermatologist who prescribed medication, which temporarily relieved the dryness. However, the problem returned once I finished the medication. I visited a physician who also prescribed medication, which again temporarily alleviated the dryness but returned after the treatment ended. I do not know what to do. Please advise.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

It sounds like you may be experiencing recurring dryness on your face, particularly around your eyes and lips. Here are a few additional suggestions you could consider:

  1. Use a humidifier: Adding moisture to the air in your living or sleeping area can help combat dryness caused by air conditioning. Consider using a humidifier to increase humidity levels.

  2. Avoid excessive exposure to air conditioning: While it may not be possible to completely avoid air conditioning, try to limit your exposure or take breaks from it when possible. This can help reduce the drying effect on your skin.

  3. Protect your skin: When spending time in an air-conditioned environment, consider using a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer to create a barrier and lock in moisture. Additionally, wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses when outdoors can help protect your face from excessive dryness caused by sun exposure.

  4. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your body and skin hydrated. This can help combat dryness from within.

  5. Avoid harsh skincare products: Opt for gentle, fragrance-free cleansers and moisturizers that are specifically formulated for sensitive or dry skin. Harsh products can further strip away moisture and exacerbate dryness.

  6. Consult a dermatologist: If the dryness persists or worsens despite your efforts, it may be beneficial to consult with a dermatologist again. They can assess your condition, provide a proper diagnosis, and recommend appropriate treatment options or adjustments to your skincare routine.

I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
