Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have an abscess in my gums. I went to the hospital and they prescribed me 500 mg Penicillin to be taken four times a day. I started the Penicillin yesterday. The abscess has caused my face to swell. Overnight, the swelling has spread to the area around my eye. I do not have any pain unless I poke around at my cheek. I can still see out of the eye, but it is uncomfortable. I am, however, extremely scared by the swelling around my eye and was wondering if I should return to the hospital and possibly inquire about an IV antibiotic or if should I just wait it out with the oral antibiotic.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
It looks like a tooth abscess. As you already know, the tooth is involved. So, I would suggest you get an X-ray of the tooth done. As the infection is severe, I suggest you take stronger antibiotics like Augmentin (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid). Also, start taking Serratiopeptidase. You also need to consult a dentist as soon as possible, and the tooth should either undergo a root canal treatment or extraction, depending on the condition of the tooth.
Hope this helps.
