Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 25, I need to know products that help me to cure my hair fall problems and face problems. Actually, my hair is silky, and today if I shower, my head is okay. The second day, the head becomes slightly grey, muddy, and soil-like in appearance. When I scratch my head, the substance comes to the nails. Coming to my face, it is oily, and scars are on the middle. Please give me the prescription and the products.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Your condition is called seborrheic dermatitis, a very common presentation we often see in the outpatient department, and it is very common in young men. The grey, muddy, or soil-like substance that appears on the scalp one or two days after washing and comes off on your nails when you scratch is actually a mixture of excess oil, dead skin cells, and yeast overgrowth.
This condition often causes itching, dandruff, scalp buildup, and increased hair fall, but the hair fall is usually temporary and reversible once the scalp inflammation is controlled. Your oily facial skin with marks and scars in the central face also fits with a seborrheic–acne overlap, which often occurs together with scalp dandruff.
For treatment:
You should use a Zinc pyrithione Ketoconazole shampoo twice weekly for three weeks.
Apply the shampoo to the scalp, gently massage it, and leave it on for three to five minutes before rinsing.
On other days, you can use a mild regular shampoo if needed.
In addition, apply Betamethasone lotion in a thin layer once daily at bedtime for two weeks only, focusing on itchy and flaky areas.
This will quickly reduce inflammation, itching, and excessive scaling.
Do not continue it beyond two weeks.
In case of itching, you can take a tablet Cetirizine 10 mg (milligram) at night for seven days.
For your face, use a gentle foaming face wash for oily skin twice daily and a light, non-comedogenic moisturizer. Avoid harsh scrubs, frequent face washing, or home remedies, as these worsen oiliness and scarring. Once the dandruff and oil production are controlled, facial oiliness and breakouts usually improve on their own. Hair fall should also reduce within four to six weeks as the scalp becomes healthy.
Avoid very hot water, harsh soaps, and frequent scratching, as these worsen irritation. Hair oils, heavy creams, and styling products should be minimized because they increase greasiness and scaling.
Please note that this condition is chronic but controllable, not dangerous, and not due to poor hygiene. Be regular with treatment, avoid scratching.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
