Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I lost a lot of my hair two years after taking hormonal tablets due to PCOD. After that, I tried a lot of home remedies and oil on my hair. Though a lot of hair has grown back, I still find empty areas on my scalp. I do not have much money to invest, and I am afraid of the side effects of allopathic medications. Can you suggest some best remedies to get good hair growth?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Hair thinning is a symptom of PCOD (polycystic ovarian disease). Your hair loss is not because of hormonal therapy. Hormonal therapy for PCOD helps to keep your hormones under normal balance and helps to regrow your hair. Hair is made up of a protein called keratin. Therefore, you need to consume a lot of protein in your diet to regrow your hair. Oils of any nature applied from outside onto the scalp will not help. There is only one medicine that is FDA (food and drug administration) approved for hair growth. It is called Minoxidil. It is a topical lotion, gel, or spray. This increases blood supply to your hair roots and helps to grow new hair. It is available in various concentrations, 2 %, 5 %, and 10 %. Depending on the grade of hair loss, we choose the right concentration of Minoxidil. It would help to see a dermatologist determine the hair loss grade. I suggest you follow these tips. Start taking a protein-rich diet, egg, milk, curd, boiled chicken, and fish. Do regular exercise to keep your BMI (body mass index) under 25. Take hair nutrients like biotin, calcium, and zinc.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
