Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am suffering from severe hair loss since the past 45 days. I am only losing my hair on the top and front part of my head and it all started like a month ago. I am not using any medications right now.

Basic Details: Male, 25 years old, 5'11", 154 lbs. Please suggest me medications to prevent hair loss and regrow my hair. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thanks for sharing the pictures (attachment removed to protect patient identity). It seems you are having androgenetic alopecia with may be a component of telogen effluvium. You say you do not have any health issues and not on any medications. But what about in the past six months? During that period did you have any prolonged illness or dietary restrictions? Any stress? Or a family history of hair loss?

Start the following medications and please know that any treatment of hair fall takes a long time to work and the maximum result can take up to six months to one year, so you need to be patient. Tablet Propecia (Finasteride) 1 mg one tablet daily. Rogaine lotion (Minoxidil) applies half a teaspoon twice a day at the affected scalp skin. Nizoral 2 % (Ketoconazole) shampoo, avoid hair oil if using and follow up after six weeks. Take care.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you so much.

I did not have any health issues in the past two years except a knee injury while playing cricket and I did not follow any dietary restrictions. There is little stress involved in the field I work and there is no hair loss in our family as well. The medicines you have advised, do I need a prescription for that? And are those medicines just for preventing hair loss? I want a prescription for regrowing my hair as well. Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, you will need a prescription for these medications. And the medications are both for preventing the further hair loss as well as for the regrowth, just be patient and you will see the results. Initially, you might even feel that hair loss is increasing as the shedding of weaker hair in initial phases of hair treatments is a common occurrence. Do not be alarmed with that and continue the medications. Take care.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
