Do high blood pressure cause headaches?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My father has had issues with a headache since last week, along with eye pain, near nose, and lip pain. ECG report showed an increase in BP from last month. Now his blood pressure is 100/170 mmHg. I went to a nearby physician, and he prescribed Telmisartan. Is it good? And this issue because of high blood pressure? Because he also has a cough.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for writing, and I understand your concern.

The headache and pain near the eyes and lips are due to high blood pressure (BP), so continue taking BP (blood pressure) medications. Other reports are fine except for increased creatinine, so please drink filtered water in a good amount. Along with BP (blood pressure) medicine, I suggest you take Tablet Paracetamol 650 mg once after a meal (whenever the headache is severe). Apart from it, everything is fine, and the headache will settle down soon.

If anything else, please let me know.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

But sir, one of the surgeon in my relation asked us to take a CT scan, and he says that it is because of an increase in blood vessels size.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Firstly let us wait for five days and see if blood pressure settles and the headache improves. If so, there is no need for CT (computed tomography), but we will see accordingly if it continues. Just take BP (blood pressure) medicine and Tablet Paracetamol 650 mg.

Hopefully, it will settle. If anything else, please let me know.

Thank you.
