Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had a period of exactly 14 days, and it is not getting lighter. My mom thinks it is because I did not have my period for the last four to five months. Is this abnormal? What should I do?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern. You are a teenager, and in this situation, your periods could be irregular and ovulatory. Sometimes hormonal imbalance or otherwise the body needs time to regulate cycles, and it is proper development. I suggest you to follow a few instructions mentioned below.

  1. Take tablet Norethisterone 10 mg twice daily from day 5 to day 24 for three cycles to regulate cycles.
  2. Take tablet Postan 500 mg 8 hourly and tablet Transenxamic acid 500 mg 8 hourly to reduce bleeding.
  3. Have a transvaginal scan, thyroid function tests, complete blood count and check results.
  4. Take iron supplements as well to reduce the risk of anemia.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
