Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My height is 5 feet. I want to increase my height by at least three to four inches. If possible, how can I improve my height?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed your query. The growth of bones eventually stops, because of the closure of growth plates in long bones, which occurs in puberty that is around 16 years of age in girls and 14 to 19 years in boys. According to the majority of studies, the growth of height stops between 18 to 20 years. It is highly unlikely for a girl to have her height increased after 18 years (especially after 16 years for girls).

Rarely, few studies propose that you can gain a little increase in height by taking foods with Calcium and Vitamin D as required regularly. But this seems to have only small benefits after the growth plate closure. Growth hormone injections do not have any role in your age group (just for children with deficiencies of hormone).

But, in some countries, bone lengthening procedures are being done, which are high risk associated with varied results and even not allowed in a few places. There is very minimal chance of increasing your height at this age group. Still, you can follow a few simple methods like taking nutritious food and exercising regularly and maintaining proper posture methods.
