Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

One of my cousin is suffering from hepatitis C infection. And the doctor has given him Mavyret tablet. He is very young and concerned about the chances of contacting the infection and the prognosis. Kindly suggest if this medication can cure the infection.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

1) Hepatitis C is a virus that spreads with blood or blood-containing products or sexual interaction, common causes are dental procedures, blood transfusion, trauma leading to stitches, tattoos, sharing razor blades, etc.

2) Tablet Mavyret (Glecaprevir) is one of the best treatment options available at the moment, and it can cure this disease very well.

3) No major side effects, the liver should be evaluated with an ultrasound abdomen and liver function tests too.

4)One should be eating a normal diet, avoid eating out, and alcohol consumption if any

5) If the liver is normal on ultrasound, it can be easily treated, with no major life-threatening situations if treated early.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take the medications with their consent.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
