Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I had a bad chest infection two months ago, which resolved after a few weeks. After that, I again got a sinus and throat infection for a month. Till then, my nose has always seemed congested, and I had a post-nasal drip, too, with a sour taste. I also have had a skin allergy for the last two years. I get hives when scratching the skin. Yesterday I had CBC, and all the values were under range except lymphocyte count, which is 55 %, and ESR, 13 %. TLC is 6400. Is it concerning?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
You can have a viral upper respiratory tract infection that can cause a high lymphocyte count. However, your peripheral smear report (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity) shows normal WBC (white blood cell) morphology, so do not worry about that.
1. Symptomatic management can be done with decongestants like Levocetirizine.
2. An antibiotic course can be prescribed if there is no improvement.
3. Steam inhalation can be done three times a day.
4. Drink more water.
5. Avoid eating excess spicy foods.
6. Salt water gargling can be done with warm water.
7. Allergy testing can be done to find causative allergens if present.
8. Tablet Levocetirizine will help with skin allergies as well. However, please consult a physician, discuss with them and start taking the medications with their consent.
I hope this will help you.
Thanks and take care.
