Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have high MCV, MCH, and MCHV. I also have high B12 levels. What does this mean? I have stomach upset, diarrhea and I pass stool after every meal within an hour. My stool seems to be yellow or orange-brown in color. I have a past history of food intolerance and allergy. Currently, I am taking Esmoprazole when I have difficulty while managing my stomach upset.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Following is my opinion for your asked question. In the attached report (attachment removed to protect patient identity), MCV (mean corpuscular volume), MCH (mean corpuscular hemoglobin), and MCHC (mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration) is in high range within borderline. All other CBC (complete blood count) parameters are within range. So do not be worried about it. It can occur due to nonspecific findings. Your B12 remains slightly high. It can occur due to intake of multivitamin supplement probably if you have taken it in the last few days. If you do not have a history of any multivitamin intake then kindly investigate with SGPT (alanine transaminase), and serum protein estimation to check for liver disease, serum urea, and creatinine to check for renal function. Myeloproliferative blood disorder can also elevate B12 but it does not seem to be a cause in your case as your CBC is normal. B12 is a water-soluble vitamin and so it gets excreted from the body in the next few days. Do not be worried. Hope I have answered your questions. Let me know if you have more questions in your mind.

Best regards.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I took multivitamins for few days that include vitamin B12. But I do not take this every day. My creatinine remains low but I am not sure whether it is in borderline low or classified as low. I have attached this finding.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Following is my further opinion for your asked question. In the attached report, liver function and kidney function remains normal. So, do not be worried about it. Your high B12 occurs due to increased supplement intake. Your creatinine is low. But we do not have anything to be worried. If creatinine remains high, then it is a matter of worry and so do not be worried about low creatinine.

I hope I have answered your asked question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Best regards.
