Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have high testosterone levels. Because of this, I have thick black facial hair all over my face. I have had this problem since my adolescence, and it has been getting worse.
I want to remove my facial hair. What should I do?
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
Your problem is called hirsutism. Hirsutism is a condition in women that results in excessive growth of dark or coarse hair in a male-like pattern (face, chest, and back). With hirsutism, extra hair growth often arises from excess male hormones. A detailed blood test is needed for diagnosis. I suggest you do the following tests.
1. Serum prolactin levels.
2. Serum FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone).
3. Serum DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone).
4. USG (ultrasound) abdomen and pelvis scan.
According to these reports, further management can be decided. For facial hair removal, laser treatment can be beneficial. It can be done in six to seven sessions.
Consult a gynecologist for examination and further management.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
