Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had tested for HIV infection after eight years of exposure using test kits and the results came back negative. However, I read online that symptoms like pain, fever, or the use of any medications can alter the test results. I had a burning sensation in various body parts and pain in my legs while testing. So, are my test results false negative? Also, I am having symptoms like burning sensation in my groin area, and weakness in my hands, legs, and muscles. Can a rapid test kit detect HIV infection after eight years of exposure? Also, am I in the last stage of HIV that cannot detect any antibodies? I am very stressed.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for the query. I understand your concern and will surely help you.

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) rapid test results that are negative repeatedly and after eight years of exposure are almost conclusive. The chances of HIV tests coming positive later are nil. I suggest you go for an HIV antibodies test in a laboratory rather than home testing. Also, your symptoms are non-specific and they can be due to anxiety as well.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert in case of further doubts.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello sir,

Thank you for the answer.

I accidentally came in contact with the HIV antigens in the test kit through my pricked finger. Can I get infected by coming in contact with the antigens? Also, one month before the test, I was on the tablet Remylin AX, tablet Pregabalin 75 mg, tablet Tryptomer, and injection B12. I had high B12 levels of 2000 pg/ml. Can these parameters affect my results?

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thank you for the follow-up query. There is no possibility of transmission of HIV by coming in contact with the test kit antigens. Also, stress does not affect the test results. I hope this helps.

Thank you.
