How is the CMIA combo HIV test performed?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I shall be thankful to you if you please answer a few of my queries. How CMIA (chemiluminescent magnetic microparticle immunoassay) combo for HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) testing is done? How reliable it is at 175 and 180 post incidence. INDEX was 14 and 08, respectively. What are the chances of error in the result? (done at two different labs). Even after three years, I have no medical issues. Please give me an awareness of procedure reliability.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Below are the specific answers to your questions.

CMIA (chemiluminescent magnetic microparticle immunoassay) is based on the chemiluminescence principle and performed on an automated analyzer. It is the most effective technique nowadays to rule out HIV. CMIA can almost 100 percent rule out HIV after 90 days of exposure. Usually, in most patients, CMIA can be effective after six weeks of exposure. So, after 175 days of exposure, you need not worry about HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). The index value is a cut-off value based on the result. The chance of error is very low.

After testing twice with accurate results, the chance of a testing error is extremely low. Given that it has been three years since the possible exposure and you have had no related health issues during this time, the likelihood of you having HIV is considered to be very low.

I hope this helps.

Please contact us if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
