How accurate is the HIV 1/2 antigen and antibody test?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Actually, I had casual sex with a CSW (Community Sex Worker) a month back. I did my HIV(Human Immunodeficiency Virus) 1/2 antigen and antibody test 15 days back, almost after 26 days. I got symptoms of swollen glands under my jaw and a stiff neck, as well as joint and muscle aches. Today I got small ulcers on my tongue. Can you please tell me about my test accuracy and my symptoms?

Hello, Welcome to icliniq.com.

Sensitivity is up to 92 percent in your case. You need to repeat testing after 12 weeks.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor, Thank you for the reply.

What do you mean by 92 percent sensitivity? What about my symptoms? Can it be related to ARS (Acute Retroviral Syndrome)?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, they can be of ARS (acute retroviral syndrome). 92 percent sensitive means out of 100 HIV-positive patients, this test would detect 92 accurately on day 26.
