Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Before nine months, I had sex with a girl and this was my first exposure. I had protected sex by using condoms. I had incomplete sex as I did not release any fluid outside. But there was a precum on my penis in low quantity. After sex, I tried to remove my condom and my partner stopped me and she started to remove the condom. After removing it, I pulled the upper skin of my penis with the same hand to cover it. I am not sure whether I touched the inner skin or not. But I am worried about the precum on my penis. It does not have any cuts or sores or any other kind of infection. After this, she cleaned it with a cloth and I dressed myself. My life was running well. After a few days, I started to think about the situation seriously and I am worried about HIV. On the same day, I started to have symptoms like diarrhea and dry throat. I was not able to eat anything and I did not feel hungry and I was not able to sleep properly. I had these symptoms for a week. Am I infected with HIV? Please help me. I got tested for HIV 1 and HIV 2 antibodies after three months of sex. The result came negative. I am scared about HIV because of my smoking habit. Will it produce a wrong result? After three months, I had a fever, throat pain, illness, and diarrhea. I tested positive for COVID-19. I started taking medicine and these symptoms went away. I did not test for COVID-19 again as my symptoms were gone. But now I had a mild fever for two times after COVID-19 symptoms are gone. Should I need to test again for HIV?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You are under a lot of stress due to the exposure. From the description, I can say that you have reduced chances to get infected with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) as there was no direct mucosa to mucosa contact or blood contact. I will not recommend HIV testing again as you already tested it. There is no need to have further testing. The symptoms of fever, diarrhea, and weakness are general and it can occur at any time for anyone. But due to stress, you are thinking about HIV. Do not read about HIV more in online as it leads to stress.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Do the test is accurate and sufficient for conformation? Does smoking produce a false negative result? Even after COVID-19 symptoms are gone, why am I having a fever for a short time? Please clarify my doubts.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Your exposure was not at higher risk and you do not need further testing. If you want to reduce your anxiety, you can do another test called a fourth-generation ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) test at any time to diagnose HIV. No, smoking does not produce a false negative result. It is normal to have a fever and diarrhea. Anyone can get it. Next time, check your fever with a thermometer and keep a proper record and so that I can give you better guidance.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
