Is the risk of HIV high after sex with a masseuse?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

A week ago, I had intercourse with a masseuse. I was wearing a condom while penetrating her, but while I was removing it after sex, I realized that there was a tear in it. I do not know her HIV status. What should I do now? Kindly advise.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query. I understand your concern and would be happy to help. The chances of transmission of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) after a single unprotected intercourse with an HIV-positive person are low. I suggest you go for an HIV antibody test now, and after three months of exposure to have conclusive results.

I hope this helps.

Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
