At 28, how can I manage my Hodgkin’s lymphoma?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 28 years old. I am currently waiting for biopsy results because my doctors suspect Hodgkin’s lymphoma after enlarged lymph nodes and unexplained weight loss. The waiting period has become difficult, and I keep searching for symptoms online late at night, then convincing myself that every possibility means something worse. I know this probably is not helping, but I cannot seem to stop.

  • Should I avoid searching my symptoms online entirely while waiting for results?
  • Can some research actually be useful?
  • How do people manage uncertainty before a diagnosis without becoming consumed by worst-case scenarios?
  • Are there specific questions I should prepare for my next appointment instead of searching for random information.

Help me out.

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

First of all, I wish you a speedy recovery. I completely understand how stressful the period you are going through is, especially the waiting time for a diagnosis, because it is one of the most difficult phases for patients and families all over the world. Regarding lymphoma, you usually consider symptoms such as:

However, the most important thing is how the disease actually presents and how we can build the most appropriate treatment plan for you.

I want to reassure you that lymphoma today is not as difficult to treat as it used to be in the past, and chemotherapy is also much more tolerable now than before.

There are many treatment options, including immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and chemotherapy. There are people with lymphoma who live normal lives and manage their disease very well.

You can find lots of stories online about people who have done a job dealing with lymphoma and staying healthy for a long time. Taking care of yourself is also very important. It can really help you feel better and get an outcome.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Feel free to ask me questions.

Thank you.
