Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been taking Methimazole (Tapazole) 45 grams (15g each three times a day) for almost a month now for hyperthyroidism. I have noticed an extreme increase in appetite and have gained weight already. This is the only medicine I am currently taking. My question is: Is it safe to take one capsule a day of Garcinia Cambogia to curb my appetite? I bought the supplement already but did not start yet because I want to make sure it will not interfere with my current medication. Kindly suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern. From what you have mentioned I suggest that you repeat your thyroid function test since hyperthyroidism does not cause weight gain. There is no interaction between the two Methimazole (Lactose monohydrate and Magnesium stearate) and Garcinia cambogia. Garcinia cambogia is an herb that causes weight loss but your weight is absolutely within the normal BMI (body mass index) so there is no need for this. Although there is no harm in taking it.

I hope you find this helpful.

Thank you.
