Can thyroid problems cause weight gain and fatigue?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am losing all my strength and gaining weight, and my eyes are failing, along with other symptoms. I had a thyroid test, and the doctor told me it was normal. However, I am concerned about my thyroid's left lobe, and I have also attached my report with this query. Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query

I have gone through your report (attachment removed to protect for patient's identity). I suggest you go on and take a fine needle aspiration cytology or biopsy test to be on the safe side, as you cannot leave it without getting it assessed thoroughly, even if the chances are 5 % of malignancy.

Please follow up for further assistance.

Thank you.
