Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have chronic extra iodine due to my incompetence and incorrect labeling. I have hyperthyroidism and am suffering from a severe headache. I have stopped taking supplements. However, due to allergies, my diet is deficient in iodine. Is this risky, and how long will it take for the excess to exit my body? I also appear to be reacting negatively to more meals and am at a loss for what to do. My thyroid stimulating hormone and FT4 levels are elevated, and my FT3 is at the upper range of normal. I am amid menopause. My neck does not appear bloated. Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
You may have previously had iodine-induced hyperthyroidism, but this is generally temporary and resolves when the extra iodine is avoided. Your thyroid stimulating hormone level is normal, and your FT4 (free thyroid) level is slightly raised but not statistically significant. Because the free thyroid hormones T3 and T4, are the variable components, as long as your thyroid stimulating hormone is normal, your thyroid is operating normally. You also do not have any neck swelling, which confirms my diagnosis. Other factors might be causing your symptoms. Check your cholesterol levels as well; it is best to have it examined regularly at your age. Try maintaining a food diary and writing down what you eat and what gives you belly discomfort so you can avoid it in the future.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards.
