Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a male and would like to slow, if not stop body hair growth. Will hormone blockers or Estrogen tablets help? I am currently on gout medication. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query, and I can understand your concern.

You have excess body hair, and you want to stop the hair growth or rather decrease it. However, it is not advisable to use hormone blockers or estrogen tablets, but I can suggest you start with a tablet Spironolactone 25 mg once daily to block the androgenic effects due to excess testosterone in your body. The medication should not be taken if you take Colchicine for your gout. Consult a specialist doctor and take these medications with their consent. Although, it works well if you take Allopurinol instead of Colchicine for the same. I suggest you do moderate-intensity exercise like walking or swimming for 30 to 45 minutes to lose weight, which is also a contributory factor for excess androgens. There are some side effects of Spironolactone in the long run such as gynaecomastia (breast development although mild), impotence in extremely few cases, and short-term rashes and itchiness. If you have any kidney disorder, I would not suggest using it.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
