What can be the cause for a black liquid to leak from the anus in a severely constipated person?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 21-year-old female with no dietary restrictions, and I have dealt with IBS and severe constipation my entire life. I have recently been under quite a lot of stress and have been completely unable to make a bowel movement for a few days. I took a 145 microgram Linzess and drank some magnesium, and I have only somewhat been able to use the restroom. My concern is that it is primarily black liquid coming out with nearly no solid matter.

Please help. Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Have you ever got a colonoscopy done? If there is any black liquid coming out, then it is altered blood. Kindly get a colonoscopy done as soon as possible. Maybe you have a stricture. It would help if you did not take purgatives without ruling out other causes. Please get back to us with reports.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
