Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have had gastrointestinal issues for the past few years. I underwent multiple endoscopies and colonoscopy, but results along with biopsy came normal. My last endoscopy and colonoscopy were done seven months back. I have stomach inflammation flare-ups, and I feel like it is an ulcer; recently, I started getting diarrhea, and the stool has a lot of white mucus with a foul smell. After I eat food, I have the urge to pass stool every two to three hours. Even at night, I wake up to pass stool. The gastroenterologist with the last results said they do not see any problem, but I am worried as I continue to have these stomach flare-ups and this stool issue. What could be causing this?
I have been to the emergency room last due to abdominal pain, left upper and next to belly button, only left side, and when they did computed tomography scan, all they could see is bowel present. No other complaints in computed tomography.
I also have silent reflux I have been to ENT multiple times. Recently my physician wrote a stool test, and lactoferrin came positive; she is saying intestinal inflammation is present and again I have to visit a gastroenterologist.
I am worried about what is going on with me, and please help.
Hi
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
I have gone through the detailed medical history.
Please get a CT (computed tomography) angiography of the abdomen to rule out any mesenteric lesion.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
Is CT angiography different from CT scan with contrast?
My CT scan was done with contrast.
As my physician said, one doubt is that it is not related to malabsorption or IBD.
When you say lesion, is it cancer?
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
CT (computed tomography) angiography of the abdomen means the visualization of blood vessels of the abdomen. A routine CT scan cannot identify blood vessel anomalies. Routine CT scans identify only structural defects in abdominal organs like the liver, spleen, stomach, intestine, etc. Since it is expected, the possibility of blood vessel-related abnormality is more likely. Therefore, I do not think it is cancer because cancer will be seen on a routine CT scan.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
Getting a gastroenterologist's appointment is very difficult here. Usually, it takes two to three months minimum.
Is there any temporary medicine that I can take to ease my discomfort? My symptoms currently are as below:
1. Foul smelling, white mucus, floating stools. I took anti-diarrheal medicine last night, and the diarrhea stopped, but I still passed a stool in the morning.
2. Stomach discomfort, ache, or sour stomach. After eating stomach gets tight, and pain increases.
3. Sometimes, during the night, I feel chest squeezing or sore food pipe and throat.
The main discomfort is a sore stomach throughout the day.
Please recommend if I can use any over-the-counter medicine for temporary relief.
Also, I used the Clindamycin antibiotic two weeks back when all these symptoms aggravated. I usually have constipation, not diarrhea.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
By your history and description possibility, of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) is more likely. It is directly associated with stress and anxiety, which also cause GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease).
So your symptoms are suggestive of GERD with IBS. I would suggest:
Please answer the following:
1. Do you have any stress or anxiety in your life?
2. Have you ever tried the Levosulperide combination?
3. Have you heard about Librax and Sporolac tablets?
