How to manage high BP in insomniacs?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am taking Olmesartan 50 for high blood pressure. I am an insomniac and I take Escitalopram Oxalate for that. All my other reports are normal, but I still have trouble sleeping. My blood pressure is still 140/90 mmHg. I have taken Alprazolam 25 before, but it has not helped.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

For blood pressure control, take Amlodipine 5 mg along with your current medication. For the sleep problem, replace it with Lorazepam 1 mg at night. Avoid excessive caffeine, tea, etc., before bedtime. Create a conducive environment for sleep. Please note: Olmesartan and all other medications in this group are contraindicated during pregnancy as they may cause serious side effects to the fetus, including potential fetal loss.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Preventive measures

Preventive measures include avoiding noise, losing weight if overweight, and reducing salt intake.
