How to deal with extreme itchiness and swollen vagina?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been having symptoms closely related to a yeast infection (which I am pretty sure it is). I am having extreme itchiness and swollen vagina. Occasionally I have noticed white milky discharge. I have a history of UTIs and yeast infections. But I have been getting them frequently, so I am unsure what is wrong. I am taking Lexapro daily and Xanax occasionally. I am 18 years old, weighing 110 pounds, and sexually active, but I have been with the same partner for around two years.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You have a yeast infection and recurrent UTI (urinary tract infection). Better to have a vaginal swab for testing if any other organism is harming you. So have one vaginal swab test.

Why are you taking antidepressants daily? Have you been treated for any disease?

1. Xanax (Alprazolam) and Lexapro (Escitalopram Oxalate) if sleep less.

2. Try to have a full treatment of any problem you have.

3. Use condoms always to prevent transmission of sexually transmitted diseases.

4. Have recreational activities and quit recreational drugs. You are just a teenager.

5. Eat healthy, nutritious food with daily exercise and yoga.

6. Follow HVS (high vaginal swab) report and discuss it here.

7. Take lots of cranberry juice and water to prevent recurrent UTI (urinary tract infection).

8. Have Clotrimazole pessary after vaginal swab on two alternate nights.

9. Consult your physician or psychiatrist to help you to quit unnecessary antidepressants as from this age it is really too early, still whole life ahead.

10. Have nice hobbies like swimming and painting.

Best of Luck.
