Does testicle surgery done to prevent their twisting cause post-surgical swelling of the testicles?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 17-year-old male who needs peace of mind and a few queries answered. Two weeks ago, I had surgery on my testicles to cure them from twisting and untwisting, and the surgeons stitched both in place to prevent it from happening again. However, two weeks on, I still have swollen testicles occasionally that seem to go away when I walk around. Is it normal that they are still swollen, especially in the morning? Now and then, I also get a shooting pain from there for a second or so, which feels as if the stitches placed to stop them from moving are ripping. Furthermore, after two weeks, I have become increasingly aroused. When will I be able to alleviate some of my hormones? I seem to have more veins on my penis than I did before the surgery?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern. Consult the operating surgeon and get the stitches checked. I do not know what type of stitches were put - dissolving or ones which has to be removed. I hope you have taken proper and strict precautions after surgery, as explained by your doctor—no sexual activity, no heavy lifting weight, strenuous work, exercise, etc., and maintain good hygiene. As far as being aroused is concerned, it is more related to hormones and will be fine in a few weeks as the hormones balance, the wound heals, and the recovery takes place. It might take some time and depends on the individual. The doctor must physically examine the presence of prominent veins to know the exact cause. Mild swelling and pain are normal post-surgery, which is wound-related and should subside with mild analgesics and painkillers. It would help if you had a proper prescription from a doctor in your country, or he might have advised you already. Sometimes post-surgical complications do develop and have to be physically examined. Also, it is mandatory to follow up post-surgery to ensure the healing process is going fine.

Thank you.
