Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I believe I might have developed a jock itch in my groin area, and it has been persistent for a year or two. What would be the permanent and safe solution for treating it? In the past, I has been dealing with itching in that area when I was a teenager, and I used an anti-itching cream to address the issue. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Fungal infection indeed is very problematic if it becomes recurrent. I suggest you keep the following precautions in mind:

  1. Do not keep the area wet at all. Use powder frequently to keep it dry.

  2. Avoid itching and do not scratch it.

  3. Change the undergarments.

  4. Do not apply general or steroid creams like Betnovate (Betamethasone) etc.

  5. Do not stop the medicine once it gets cured. Continue the medicine for a long time to completely get rid of the fungal infection.

  6. Avoid excessive sweating and wet clothes.

  7. Check your diabetes and thyroid levels as these are really recurrent even after proper treatment.

The treatment part is as follows:

  1. Apply Ketoconazole cream and take the tablet Terbinafine 250 mg for two months or apply Terbinafine cream.

  2. Take the tablet Fluconazole 150 mg twice a week for two months or take the tablet Itraconazole 200 mg once a day and apply cream for one month.

  3. Take a tablet of Levocetirizine 10 mg once at night in case of itching.

These are the treatment combinations that you need to continue.

Feel free to contact me if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
