Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have bumps on the back of my arms and have no idea how to get rid of them. They are pimple-like, but really hard and painful to pop. I have had them for years since I was a teenager. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

With your descriptions, it seems either you have Keratosis pilaris (KP) or Acne vulgaris. It can be confirmed if you revert with a picture. Keratosis pilaris (KP) is a genetic disorder of keratinization of hair follicles of the skin. It is an extremely common benign condition that manifests as small, rough folliculo-centric keratotic papules (small bumps centered on small hair follicles) mainly over outer-upper arms and thighs. Keratosis pilaris affects nearly 50 to 80 percent of all adolescents and approximately 40 percent of adults The general measures to prevent it is to prevent excessive skin dryness, such as using mild soapless cleansers. Mild cases of keratosis pilaris may be improved with basic lubrication using over-the-counter moisturizer lotions, and retinoic acid products. I suggest applying it to the affected parts during the night. Please revert with a clear picture so that I can assist you better.

I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
