I have recurrent Klebsiella infections. Please suggest a treatment.

Hello doctor,

I am a 19 year old female. I have been having a mucus infection since two years. Early last year, after a sputum culture test, it was found out that I suffer from a Klebsiella infection. I have been receiving Ceftriaxone injections thrice a month for the last six months and in each case, the infection subsides but comes back after two weeks. I am now taking Ciprofloxacin for a week, but still, the infection is present. I do not know what to do.

Klebsiella is a bacteria that affects people with low immunity and other diseases that reduce the body's immune system. It spreads mostly through contacts and not through the air.

If you are repeatedly getting infected, either the bacteria is resistant or there might be someone nearby who is infected and spreading it to you. Now, I recommend you complete the Ciprofloxacin course and wait for the infection to subside.

Your doctor might order you some tests to see the susceptibility with antibiotics.
